The 3-story tenement at 578 Bushwick Avenue was built to house five families and one store in 1883. Designed by Theobald Engelhardt for owner John Mayer, the building is 25 feet wide by 60 feet deep and 39 feet high. A spruce-framed building with outer walls of pale brick and one inch siding, this structure was built on concrete footing, with a stone and brick foundation. It was also built with four brick chimneys and a flat tin roof at a cost of $4200. The storefront facade has been refaced in brick and the upper stories covered with faux siding.
