History and analysis
These five brick, three-story tenements at the northwest corner of Beaver and Locust Streets were constructed in 1882 at an initial cost of $3,200 per dwelling. While the architect cannot be firmly identified, it is probable that they were designed by Theobald M. Engelhardt, who worked with builder/developer George Loeffler on many similar groups of speculative tenements in the neighborhood and in greater Brooklyn.[1]
