History and Analysis

The two-story rowhouse at 37 Melrose Street was built as a one family dwelling in 1880. Designed by Theobald Engelhardt and built by Ph. Engelhardt for owner John Baussman, the building is 25 feet wide by 40 feet deep and 27 feet high. A spruce-framed building with outer walls of pale brick and one-inch siding, this structure was built on a stone base with a brick foundation. It was also built with a flat tin roof, and the mason was George Schrian.[1]
