History and Analysis

The Church of God of Prophecy is located on the corner of Bushwick Avenue and Weirfield Street. Originally a brick structure with a shingle peak roof, the exterior of the Church has since been altered. It was designed by Benjamin Finkensieper for the Bushwick Avenue Baptist Church Extension Society and built by R. B. Ferguson for $2,500 in 1888. CORRECTION: The cornerstone for this building was laid October 20, 1890 (see Brooklyn Daily Eagle April 19, 1891.) There was a short-term building used by the church in this location which may have created confusion on the build date.
