1228 Bushwick Avenue is a three-story Neo-Grec brownstone rowhouse with a stoop on the left side of the front facade, located between Hancock Street and Weirfield Street. Most of the structure’s original ornamental features are intact. The rowhouse was built in 1883 for $6,000 by Robert E. McCafferty who lived at 930 Gates Avenue. The structure was designed by Fred Weber and built by M. J. Reynolds and Son and the McKee Bros.

In 1900, Robert E. McCafferty owned 1228 Bushwick Avenue and lived there with his small family and a servant. He and his son were both druggists, and the family members and their parents were all born in New York.
